Hallo! Selam! Salut! Hi and welcome friends!
My name is Ekin. Yes, that is a real name. No, I am not a guy. Yes, my name spelled backwards is Nike. And no, I am not a pokémon. Now that we got that out of the way, I would like to welcome you to my blog.
Some of you might be wondering why I have decided to write a blog – and by some I mean the two out of three people that actually cared enough to go on this page lol. The reason I have decided to write a blog is the fact that quite a few of my friends have been messaging me lately to ask for my advice. I know right? Who would ask for MY advice hahahahaimamesshelpmehahahahaha. But believe it or not, I just received another message last week from one of my friends asking me for just that.
Most questions I get from friends are about my travels and my move from my home town (aka Muddastadt) Berlin to my new home of choice, Melbourne. Almost two years ago, after graduating from uni I decided to take a gap year to travel in Australia and Southeast Asia before going back to Germany to begin my Masters. But due to a series of very fortunate events, I somehow ended up staying in Australia for good.
So, I thought: Hey, my friends seem to be interested in my little journey. Why not share some of my experiences and wisdom (just imagining myself in an armchair with a long grey beard) with them and maybe some of you lovely people might actually find something interesting or useful in the things I have to say.
Long story short, what I am hoping to share on this blog are my experiences, thoughts, ideas, tips and tricks about all things related to travel, places I have visited, things I have learned on my journey from being a uni student to backpacker to expat and my new life in the beautiful city of Melbourne.
If you are not one of my three friends who are reading this, let me tell you a few facts about myself so you might get an idea about the person behind this blog. I was born in a small town close to Izmir in Turkey but grew up in the absolutely crazy and awesome city of Berlin in Germany. I grew up bilingually and speak four languages in total, three of them fluently (Turkish, German, English) and well… French… but yeah… I need lots of wine to unleash my mad French skills.
Speaking of wine, I am a total wine lover and believe there is no problem you cannot fix with a good glass of red. Another thing that fixes all my problems is delicious food, whether it’s a greasy vegan burger or a yummy nourish bowl. Yes, you read that right, I am vegan – what a cliché amirite? I am also a total beach bum, love the outdoors and my favourite thing to do is to go on spontaneous adventures with my partner in crime and favourite human, Anthony.
So welcome to my blog and thank you for joining me on my journey! It is still a work in progress but I truly hope you will get something out of this blog that might inspire you to travel more or even find the courage to move to a different country.
